-
Homeland Security: Organization & Policy: JLA 505Offered in the first semester of the program, this course will establish a foundation for the five missions of the DHS: counterterrorism, immigration enforcement, border security, cybersecurity, and emergency management. Students will be provided an in-depth examination and evidence-based approach to the complex and critical role of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its partners. The course structure will examine contemporary criminal justice and emergency management organizations and how they will work with the DHS in developing policies on national security and emergency response management.
Geopolitics and International Security (JLA 510)
- Geopolitics is defined as the study of geography on politics and international relations. The field examines how political power is reinforced or undermined by geographical arrangements (boundaries, coalitions, spatial networks, natural resources, etc.). The geographical location of an independent country is crucial to define its domestic politics and its relations to the neighbors and external world. It is believed that geopolitics has the power to shape foreign policy and regulate its internal affairs. Therefore, the future leaders of homeland security should also be trained and educated on how geopolitics can be an influential factor in determining homeland security strategies.
