Library & Research Resources for Faculty

An all-in-one resource guide for faculty looking to stay up-to-date on current information literacy trends or refresh their knowledge about conducting research at WCSU!

Placing items on reserve

Consider placing a book on reserve!

Every semester the WCSU Libraries' Circulation & Technical Services staff work with faculty members to place items on reserve for students to access online or at either of our libraries!

Why should you place an item on reserve?

Course reserves are a great way to help students access required books, textbooks, and other media without placing them under additional financial burden. Rising costs are one of the greatest barriers to many students across all of higher education, difficult to find items or expensive textbooks can set students back a significant amount!

If you place an item on reserve it will be able to be accessed by any one of your students! All course reserves are searchable in our catalog (WestSearch) either via the tag "WCSU Course Reserves" or by course name, instructor, ID, or department.

Course Reserve Request Form

In order to place an item on reserve, faculty members must fill out the form linked below.

NOW AVAILABLE! Controlled Digital Lending

“Controlled Digital Lending (CDL) encompasses practices and technologies that allow libraries to loan print books to digital patrons in a “lend like print” fashion.” See https://controlleddigitallending.org/

WCSU Library will convert a print book to digital for reserve purposes under the following conditions:

  1. Item to be digitized must be owned by library to be eligible.
  2. This is a one-to-one service, meaning the library circulates the exact number of copies of a specific title it owns, regardless of format.
-If one hard copy is owned, one copy can be available digitized, but the hard copy MUST BE REMOVED from circulation.
-If two copies are owned, one can remain in hard copy in circulation, and one copy can be lent digitally.
  3. Digital versions will be controlled and available to one student at a time, just like hard copies.
  4. Pages can be downloaded and printed by the user as they can be copied or scanned from hard copies.
  5. Priority for processing CDL requests:
    -fully online courses
    -hybrid courses
    -on-ground courses

PLEASE allow at least 2 weeks for processing.
