Accessing and Searching LibGuides

LibGuides are prepared by librarians to help students find the best resources specific to their disciplines and research needs. Think of a LibGuide as a virtual librarian - available to the you at any time of day or night. 

It's always a good idea to check the LibGuides when you're doing research. There's a lot of helpful information that can save you time and trouble.

What are Databases and Why Use Them?

According to a recent survey of incoming freshmen at WCSU, over 84 percent of entering students believe Google and/or a combination of Google/Wikipedia can satisfy all their research needs. Unfortunately, they are wrong. This video provides a lively introduction as to why academic databases are the superior choice.

Searching Basics: Using Westsearch - WCSU's Library Catalog

WestSearch is the library's catalog. From here you can find books, articles, videos, etc. - even materials from other CSU's as well as other libraries.  In this video you'll learn the basics of how to search WestSearch.

WCSU has synched its catalog to Google Scholar to allow you to see if any of the findings in your search are available at WCSU. You can gain access to more articles if you do your search through WCSU. This video shows you that option and how to use it.

Getting Books through Inter-Library Loan

Many materials not available from our library can be found through an Inter-Library Loan. This video walks you through how to set up an account and use it.
