Esther was born on June 21, 1905 in New York. Her father, John Emmett Kenny was born in Galway, Ireland on November 20, 1874 and emigrated to the United States in 1890. Her mother, Elinor Carney, was born in Connecticut in 1877. Esther’s sister Marion (1900) and her brother T. Albert (1902) were also born in New York. In 1900 the family was living in Brooklyn and John was employed as a hatter.
The 1912 Danbury city directory lists John as a foreman at the Lee-McLachlan Hat Factory and the family residence at 8 Wilson. Her sister, Marion died that year and is buried in St. Peter’s cemetery. In 1914 they moved to 53 South Street. Her mother, Elinor, died on April 6, 1923 and is also buried in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
After her graduation from Danbury Normal School, Esther is listed in the city directory of 1927 at a teacher at Stony Hill School. In the Bethel section of the 1928 directory she is the principle at Center School in Bethel. From 1931 – 1933, she is teaching in Danbury at the Morris Street School and still living at 53 South St. with her family. Her father is still employed as a hatter and is working at the W. F. Trimpert Hat Co. at the rear of 45 River Street. He died December 7, 1939.
On October 10, 1933, Esther married Robert David Davies Jr. who was born in Bridgeport. In 1935 they are living at 53 South Street and he is a product engineer in Fairfield, Connecticut. In 1940 they have moved to Fairfield, to 591 Center Street. He is still a product engineer and working for Fairfield Rubber Products. By 1942 DuPont has bought that business and he is working for them. He is a supervisor from 1947 to 1950 and they have moved to 200 Margmere Drive. They have two sons: Robert D. III (age 11) and John E. (age 4) . In 1952, Robert is working as an engineer at the C. O. Jeliff Mfg. Corp, 250 Pequot Avenue in Southport. By 1953, he is assistant manager there.
In 1964, their son Robert David III married Marylin Gertrude Mockler in Fairfield. He had attended Roger Ludlowe High School and was working for Western Electric.
Esther died on March 26, 1993 in Indian River, Florida. Robert passed away on January 9,2000 in Easton, Connecticut
