Using the Library

For your convenience, we are now offering video tutorials in lieu of face-to-face library instruction for all 100 and most 200 level courses.

These tutorials provide all of the information historically shared by our librarians in face-to-face instruction sessions.  They are freely accessible via the web and are available 24/7/365.

Our video tutorials may be accessed on the WCSU Libraries' How-To Videos & Guides page.

You may also want to subscribe to the WCSU Libraries' YouTube channel, where instructional videos are posted.

Instruction sessions can be booked for your class by clicking hereWe can help your class with:
  • accessing library resources – both print and electronic
  • developing a fluency with basic and advanced research techniques
  • Discovering what library services are available
  • developing a comfort level with academic research

We endeavor to provide customized instruction for each course and assignment. To make the most of the session, we ask that you provide:

  • The course name, course number date, time, number of students enrolled, and any special needs for the class.
  • A copy of the assignment and/or syllabus in advance, so we can tailor our instruction to your students’ needs

Other recommendations:

  • Please book your session at least 2 weeks in advance to allow time for preparation of demonstrations and materials.
  • Instruction sessions can be held in your regular classroom if there is appropriate technology available, or can be held in the Haas Library’s instruction classrooms*.
*Members of the teaching faculty and University staff may schedule the instruction classrooms no more than one week in advance before mid-semester. After mid-semester, scheduling is on a first-come, first-served basis with no limit on time in advance of the session. To schedule use of one of these rooms, please contact Jennifer O'Brien.
