Library Resources for Mathematics Majors/MAT 450: Home

The Basics

All libraries:

  1. Have a catalog.  Ours is called WestSearch.  Sometimes, you'll hear the librarians refer to it as PRIMO.
  2. Use some sort of subject classification.  The WCSU Libraries use Library of Congress Classification Numbers (QA = mathematics).  Danbury Library uses Dewey Decimal Classification (510-530 = mathematics).
  3. Have databases.  They've been evaluated/vetted by the librarians = no guess work for you when you're looking for resources.
  4. Can obtain material for you from other libraries.  Sharing.  It's fundamental.
  5. Are staffed by professionals who will help you find information, usually for free, and typically without an appointment.  Anything you discuss with a librarian is completely confidential.  Librarians don't care who you are, what you're wearing, how old you may or may not be, whether or not you have fingers, knees, or toes - if you ask a librarian for assistance, you'll get it.

Citation style guides

Did your professor tell you to format your paper in APA or AMS style?

Are you expected to provide a list of MAA citations?

Not quite sure how to get started?

AMS and MAA style guides may be found below.  Additional information (and examples of other style formats) may be found on the Citation Style Guides page.

Mathematics support at WCSU

WCSU Math Clinic

The Math Clinic is a traditional math tutoring center, where students who have done well in undergraduate level math courses in the past serve as tutors to assist their fellow students with homework problems, projects, and preparing for quizzes or exams.

WCSU Math Emporium

The Math Emporium is an interactive computer-equipped tutorial learning center that enables a new way of teaching/learning the remedial math courses MAT 100 and 100P ONLY. It combines software-based learning, some traditional lecture instruction, and one-on-one tutoring, with faculty and teaching assistants available to assist students.
