Google Scholar Citations provide a simple way for authors to keep track of citations to their articles. You can check who is citing your publications, graph citations over time, and compute several citation metrics. You can also make your profile public, so that it may appear in Google Scholar results when people search for your name.
Altmetrics is a contraction of "Alternative Metrics," or ways beyond traditional citation metrics to measure the impact of your work. Altmetrics tools track mentions, tweets, downloads, comments, and use of scholarly work in non-academic discussion venues to complement traditional metrics in demonstrating your scholarly impact.
Tools for Tracking Altmetrics
Altmetric tracks and analyzes online activity such as mainstream media, social media and publisher download data, for mentions of scholarly literature. This data is used to calculate an Altmetric Score, which is a measure of the quality and quantity of attention that an article has received.
ImpactStory is an open-source web-based tool that gathers metrics for research products (articles, data sets, slides, etc.) from a variety of sources, including Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Mendeley, PubMed Central, and Scopus. An individual's ImpactStory profile supplies raw metrics and 'badges' for each research product. The badges indicate how a product has performed in both scholarly and public arenas, compared to similar products in the same discipline.
