Grant applications are now closed.

Four (4) OER Implementation Grants in the amount of $1000 each are being offered to support replacement of existing high cost materials with an OER alternative in a course.

  • Full Time AAUP Faculty and adjunct Faculty may apply.
  • Library support is available to help identify OER resources, including supplemental resources.
  • Instructional design support is available to assist with course design/redesign.
  • Applications must be completed online.  Please see the application form at the bottom of this page.

Resources for the grant may include, but are not limited to:

  • Open textbooks and accessory materials.
  • Open course materials and websites such as syllabi, lesson plans, activities, and content; images and videos; software; and open access journal articles.
  • Accessory materials totaling no more than $35 per student may be used in the course.
  • Library databases and other material in the library and media collections that are licensed for use by students may be used.

Grant awardees will be required to:

  • Implement one or more OERs to replace commercial resources currently used in a WCSU course.
  • Submit a brief OER implementation report to WCSU Library. The report should include a discussion of course design challenges, experience teaching the course, teaching methods utilized, discussion of how this compared to teaching methods used with the commercial textbook or commercial resources, and report on student learning, participation, and engagement outcomes.
  • Share experience with the WCSU community via a CELT blogpost, podcast, or, if available, in a program, roundtable, or panel.
  • Consult with librarian.
  • Consult with instructional designer.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria by a committee comprised of three faculty members.

  1. Clarity and scope of goals articulated for the project. The clarity of the plan to utilize currently available OERs and/or to revise, remix, or develop OERs (please note that this grant is not for the evaluation of potential OER resources)
  2. Relative impact: number of students and overall cost savings to students to be realized by switching to OER.
  3. Commitment to submit an implementation report, as stipulated in the requirements.
  4. Commitment to share experience with the WCSU community, as stipulated in the requirements.
  5. Completeness of the application.
  6. Priority will given to first time implementations.
