2018 OER Evaluation Grant

Grant applications are now closed.

Ten (10) OER Evaluation grants in the amount of $500 each are being offered to support the identification and evaluation of potential OER materials to replace high cost texts/materials in a course.

  • Full Time AAUP Faculty and adjunct Faculty may apply.
  • Library support is available to help identify OER resources, including supplemental resources.
  • Instructional design support is available to assist with course design/redesign.
  • Applications must be completed online.  Please see the application form at the bottom of this page.

Resources for the grant may include, but are not limited to:

  • Open textbooks and accessory materials.
  • Open course materials and websites such as syllabi, lesson plans, activities, and content; images and videos; software; and open access journal articles.
  • Accessory materials totaling no more than $35 per student may be used in the course.
  • Library databases and other material in the library and media collections that are licensed for use by students may be used.

Grant awardees will be required to:

  • Evaluate/review one or more OERs with potential to replace commercial resources currently used in a WCSU course.
  • Submit an evaluation report, which will be made available on the library website so others may benefit from your work. The report should include citations of the resource(s) with links to online versions, discussion of evaluation criteria used1, a summary of the pros and cons of resource(s), and overall findings as to the feasibility of moving forward with OER adoption at this time.
  • Share experience with the WCSU community via a CELT blogpost, podcast, or, if available, in a program, roundtable, or panel.
  • Consult with librarian.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria by a committee comprised of three faculty members.

  1. Demonstrated understanding of OER and clarity of goals for the OER evaluation.
  2. Relative impact: number of students and overall cost savings to students to be realized by switching to OER.
  3. Commitment to submit an evaluation report, as stipulated in the requirements.
  4. Commitment to share experience with the WCSU community, as stipulated in the requirements.
  5. Completeness of the application.
