Vaccines to be Required for All Students This Fall

Dear CSCU Community,

The Board of Regents (BOR) voted this afternoon to require all students participating in on-campus activities at CSCU institutions to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. As I am sure you are aware, the vaccines that are currently authorized in the United States are safe, effective, and critical to resuming normal operations at our campuses this fall.

I am proud that this policy was developed with significant input from faculty, staff, and students, and I would like to thank Dr. David Blitz, the vice chair of the Faculty Advisory Committee, for leading a working group tasked with putting forward policy recommendations for the BOR’s consideration.

It is important to note that, while the BOR’s adopted policy does not specifically require all employees to be fully vaccinated, it does give the CSCU president the authority to impose such a requirement if they see fit. For represented employees, the BOR does acknowledge that there will be required discussion with the unions on this issue. Evaluations are ongoing to determine whether this course of action will be necessary.

In the meantime, if you have not already done so, please get vaccinated. With more infectious, more severe variants becoming more and more prevalent, getting your shot is the best way to protect yourself and your family.

It is simple, easy, and – in my case – painless. Get protected today.

Sincerely,

Jane Gates, Ph.D.

Interim President, Connecticut State Colleges and Universities
