2018 OER Development Grant

Grant applications are now closed.

Two (2) OER Development Grant in the amount of $1500 is being offered to support activities to develop new OER materials (or substantially revise and/or remix existing OER) for a course.

  • Full Time AAUP Faculty and adjunct Faculty may apply.
  • Library support is available to help identify OER resources, including supplemental resources.
  • Instructional design support is available to assist with course design/redesign.
  • Applications must be completed online.  Please see the application form at the bottom of this page.

Resources for the grant may include, but are not limited to:

  • Open textbooks and accessory materials.
  • Open course materials and websites such as syllabi, lesson plans, activities, and content; images and videos; software; and open access journal articles.

Grant awardees will be required to:

  • Create, and/or otherwise develop through significant revision or remixing, one or more OERs with potential to replace commercial resources currently used in a WCSU course.
  • Submit an OER development report to WCSU Library. The report should include a brief description of the completed project or a status report indicating progress towards completion. Recognizing that this project might be significant in size and scope, the OER project does not need to be completed in order to receive payment, however significant progress is expected.
  • Share the development experience with the WCSU community via a CELT blogpost, podcast, or, if available, in a program, roundtable, or panel.
  • License the resources developed for free use as an OER under a Creative Commons license.
  • Consult with librarian.
  • Consult with instructional designer.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria by a committee comprised of three faculty members.

  1. Demonstrated understanding of OER and clarity of goals for the OER development project.
  2. The clarity of the plan to develop, revise, or remix OERs (please note that this grant is not for the evaluation of potential OER resources). The plan should address timeline for significant completion of the project.
  3. Relative impact: number of students and overall cost savings to students to be realized by switching to OER.
  4. When the course is scheduled to be taught (priority given to courses taught Spring 2019- Summer 2020.)
  5. Commitment to submit a development report, as stipulated in the requirements.
  6. Commitment to share the development experience with the WCSU community, as stipulated in the requirements.
  7. Commitment to openly license (Creative Commons) course materials developed.
  8. Completeness of the application.
