The Association for Conflict Resolution, Inc. (“ACR”), was formed in 2001 from the merger of the Academy of Family Mediators (“AFM”); the Conflict Resolution Education Network (“CREnet”), the successor organization to the National Institute for Dispute Resolution (“NIDR”); and the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution, Inc. (“SPIDR”). The three organizations merged as a result of affirmative votes or advisory polls by their respective memberships and votes of their boards of directors in order to form an organization that would be a more effective voice for the field of conflict resolution and collaborative decision-making. They began to act as one organization as of January 1, 2001; however, the merger was not officially and finally approved by New York State until August 21, 2001.

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is the world’s largest online resource of documents and articles devoted to research, analysis, and scholarship on international politics and related fields, including security studies, global finance, diplomatic practice, humanitarian law, global governance, development studies, and environmental studies. With more than 500,000 pages aggregated from 300 international publishing institutions, CIAO is a unique and valuable archive and cross-searchable library of full-text articles from government research organizations, independent think tanks, university analysis centers, and scholarly journals. The material in CIAO encompasses working papers, reports, policy briefs, and current analysis and commentary, as well as scholarly journal articles, e-books, and videos.

The International Studies Program provides a solid multidisciplinary grounding in the study of global interdependence. Students build core knowledge of international social sciences, become fluent in at least one language, and develop strengths in at least two traditional disciplines.

The International Studies Association is one of the oldest interdisciplinary associations dedicated to understanding international, transnational and global affairs. Founded in 1959, its more than 7,000 members span the globe – comprising academics, practitioners, policy experts, private sector workers and independent researchers, among others. The Association has long served as a central hub for the exchange of ideas and for networking and programmatic initiatives among those involved in the study, teaching and practice of International Studies.

The Association disseminates information, facilitates collaboration among its members, publicizes research findings on important theoretical and political issues, and publishes a variety of materials relevant to the discipline. It enhances the capacity of political scientists to conduct research, improve teaching, develop professionally, and communicate their ideas within the discipline and to the wider public. The Association is also committed to transparency, open enquiry, scholarly pluralism, high standards of ethics and integrity, and a global perspective.

The Department of Political Science is one of the leading centers for the study of politics in the world. Our strengths span the traditional subfields of the discipline—including American politics, comparative politics, international relations and security studies, political economy, political theory, and political methodology—and also transcend those subfields with research and teaching that incorporate computer science and AI, history, and economics. The department prepares students to be rigorous analytical thinkers, effective communicators, and engaged citizens.
