From State Normal School to State University

History of the development of Western Connecticut State University, from Normal School in 1904 to University. Created for the Women of Mark exhibit, spring 2022

1959 - 1967

                  

1959 - Memorial Hall. the new student center, replaces Curley Hall. The school's name is changed to Danbury State College and a four-year liberal arts degree program is established.

 

1962 - The addition to Higgins Hall is complete

                                              

                                                               

1964 - The school purchases the former Danbury High School building on White Street. Litchfield Hall opens as a dormitory for women. Bob Cousy of the Boston Celtics holds a basketball clinic at the school.
