Generative AI for Faculty

Consequences/Discipline

Consequences/Discipline

  • I reserve the right based on my assessment of your assignment to require you to revise and resubmit all or parts of the assignment if I conclude that you have not used CHATGPT appropriately. If I suspect that you have used ChatGPT, and you have not included the required citation and reflection, then you will need to meet with me to talk about the assignment.

  • Creation of work using AI tools and presenting it as your own work constitutes an unethical and dishonest use of generative AI and will result in a grade of zero for that assignment and possibly a report to the Dean’s office.

  • Credit will be either reduced or not given at all if AI is used and it is obvious that it is not the writer’s own voice.

  • If use of generative artificial intelligence is suspected, instructors will check the revision history of documents to verify that the writing was generated iteratively over a period realistic for human production, and references will be checked to verify authenticity. If suspicions persist, instructors will discuss their concerns with the student to determine the appropriate course of action.

  • It’s your responsibility to become aware of the academic honesty policy of this university and take the necessary steps to ensure that your use of AI-based tools is in compliance with this policy. If you are found in violation of this policy, you may face penalties such as a reduction in grade, failure of the assignment or assessment, or even failure of the course.

  • Since writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills are part of the learning outcomes of this course, all writing assignments should be prepared by the student. Developing strong competencies in these areas will prepare you for a competitive workplace. Therefore, AI-generated submissions are not permitted and will be treated as plagiarism.
