In order to become a teacher in Connecticut you must become certified. The goal here is to connect you to the resources you need to become certified. You'll fine information here related to (a) teacher certification requirements, and (b) library resources to help you prepare for tests required for certification.
For each certification area there is a test name and a test code. For example, for secondary school English, the test name is English Language Arts: Content and Analysis and the test code is #5039.
Over time, the State of Connecticut has updated the tests required for certification. When this occurs, the test code number is changed as well. So, if you use only the guide(s) for a recently outdated test code, you may not be as well prepared as you could be.
Keep in mind that the test code for a print format test is generally a 3 digit code, while the online version has 4 digits. For example in chemistry, which has the test code 245, 5245 is the computerized version and 245 is the paper version of the test (sometimes it may be seen as 0245)
If you have questions or are uncertain about which test(s) you need to take, consult sites at the State Department of Education or at the Educational Testing Services (ETS) website.
The library has print books, online books, and other online resources to help you prepare for the exams. Note there are also some freely available guides on the Educational Testing Services website for most subjects.
Applicants seeking certification in Connecticut generally must pass one or more of the assessments in this document, depending on the endorsement areas sought.
New York State teachers, administrators, and pupil personnel service providers are required to hold a New York State certificate for employment in the State’s public schools. The Office of Teaching Initiatives issues certificates to certify that an individual has met required degree, coursework, assessment, and experience requirements. There are numerous certificates titles in three major categories: classroom teaching, administrative and supervisory, and pupil personnel service (e.g., school counselor, psychologist, social worker).

Contains 71 terms a teacher may encounter on the exam. These terms can be studied as flashcards, or in the form of online quizzes and interactive assessments. Terms include such concepts as grapheme, fluency, and miscue analysis.
The practice tests are full-length sample tests that also include an answer key worksheet, sample responses, and other evaluation information. The practice test is designed to help candidates become familiar with the structure and content of the test and identify areas in which to focus their studies. The Foundations of Reading practice test also includes analyses for the multiple-choice questions, providing both the correct answer for each question and an explanation for why other responses are incorrect, as an additional aid to help examinees prepare for the test. For tests 002 and 801 - Early Childhood; test 890 - Foundations of Reading; and test 802 for Reading Specialist.
