The Division of Criminal Justice Services maintains, analyzes and publishes criminal and youth justice system data, including incidents of crime and arrests and dispositions. Police departments, sheriffs’ offices, probation departments and the state Office of Court Administration report these data, which provide the public and policy makers with information detailing how the criminal justice system is operating in their communities.

The FBI's Crime Data Explorer (CDE) aims to provide transparency, create easier access, and expand awareness of criminal, and noncriminal, law enforcement data sharing; improve accountability for law enforcement; and provide a foundation to help shape public policy in support of a safer nation. Use the CDE to discover data through visualizations, downloads in .csv format, and other large data files.

Each year, participating law enforcement agencies contribute reports to the FBI either directly or through their state reporting programs. ICPSR (Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research) archives this Uniform Crime Report data as five separate components: (1) summary data, (2) county-level data, (3) incident-level data (National Incident-Based Reporting System [NIBRS]), (4) hate crime data, and (5) various, mostly non-recurring, data collections. Interpol is the International Criminal Police Organization, an intergovernmental organization. With 196 member countries, they help police throughout the world work together by enabling them to share and access data on crimes and criminals, while offering a range of technical and operational support.

The National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) Virtual Library hosts a collection of over 235,000 information resources on criminal justice subjects, including corrections, courts, drugs, law enforcement, juvenile justice, victims of crime, and related topics. The Virtual Library provides access to all known OJP works and sponsored research, as well as to thousands of government products, research reports, journal articles, and published and unpublished literature produced through 2014.
