How can you be participate?

Whatever one's current state of health, there are actions we can take do to maintain or improve it optimally.

  • Complete the Nutrition & Exercise Self-Assessment (see below). It will help you to be aware of your current status.
  • Create a plan, a vision of the things you want to do, along a timeline that fits your schedule.
  • Commit to one of more activities such as walking/hiking, dancing, running, cycling, tennis, weight lifting, aerobics, yoga, Pilates, etc.
  • Enter a local fitness event, on your own or with friends.
  • Track your activities, diet and exercise. You can do this in print form (notebook, journal, spreadsheets) or digital through one of the available tools. Digital tools include devices such as activity trackers made by companies like FitBit, Garmin, Jawbone, Polar, etc. Digital tools also include websites that allow you to enter data about your activities (nutrition and/or exercise) manually or, in some cases, via download from your device. One examples is Map My Walk: http://www.mapmywalk.com/
  • Post comments and ideas on social media sites.
  • Share your ideas, feelings, or experiences: write an essay, create a video, keep a journal about your experiences, and share what you do.
  • Read.
    • Browse the books in the library collection here in Haas.
    • Use the library guide (LibGuide) that contains various forms of information. There is information on books (print), eBooks, journals & magazines, videos, and many health and fitness related websites.

Can this help me with my school work?

  • Being healthy, through appropriate nutrition and exercise, could help you in that you might have more energy and a more positive outlook than you would with poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle. That is a big plus when tackling the assignments you need to do for your classes as well as other life and school related activities.
  • Learning how information about nutrition and exercise is created and organized, as well as how to locate it and evaluate it, will help you to work with information resources in other subjects as well.
