Measurement Tools in Research

The purpose of this guide is to help you to locate measurement tools to be used in your research. These tools may be in the form of tests, instruments, questionnaires, surveys, interview schedules, checklists, and more.

Find a Known Test in Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY)

The MMY Homepage has options for logging into your Ebsco account and setting up preferences. If you do not have an account you can create one (free). You would make up your own username/password (it's not in the WCSU system).

1. On the MMY homepage click on Advanced Search

2. Type in the name of the test you want to locate and select Test Name from the field options. I will look for Gray Oral Reading Tests. Note there are several other criteria that can be used to help you focus your search, such as Review Available, Year Published, and Test Category.

3. Search Results. If the text is located, from here you can look at the record for the item and read any reviews that are present.

4. Item Record. Note the marked fields.

  • Test can be searched by Acronym name.
  • Test Category is field that allows one to search for all tests in that category
  • Population is a field that allows one to search for all tests in a certain population.

These fields can come in handy. Acronym is an alternate way to find a known test. The Test Category and Population fields can be used as one pathway by which to find a test in a particular area when you are not sure what tests are available.
