Measurement Tools in Research

The purpose of this guide is to help you to locate measurement tools to be used in your research. These tools may be in the form of tests, instruments, questionnaires, surveys, interview schedules, checklists, and more.

Off Campus Access

WCSU libraries pays for a subscription to a variety of databases, journals, and other resources. Access is limited to students, faculty, and staff associated with the university. The databases, journals, and other resources "recognize" if you are on or off campus by the IP number of the computer you are using. When you are off campus, there needs to be a way of telling the resource you are a WCSU student or faculty member. How do you access electronic resources from off campus?

Start by beginning from the library homepage. Find the resource you need to use, such as a database. I will use Academic Search Premier as an example. Click on the Browse Databases A-Z link.

This will bring you to a list of WCSU databases organized alphabetically. Academic Search Premier is near the top. Click on the link.

If you were on campus, the link would take you straight to the database. If you are off campus, and not already logged into the Western system, you will be prompted to log into a window like the one below. You should only need to log on one time for the entire session. Use your Windows username/password, which is the same as you use for Blackboard or Banner.
