The WCSU General Education curriculum invites students to encounter a broad range of topics and skills in the liberal arts and sciences. The General Education system requires students to successfully complete a minimum number of credits (40) and all requirements in each of the Learning Areas and Distribution Requirements detailed below.
The Learning Areas which include First Year, Writing 1, Writing 2 and Information Literacy, Speech Communication, Personal Wellness, Racial Justice, and Global Diversity, are fulfilled by specific courses. These may be found in Open/Close under the attribute for the Learning Area’s name. New courses proposed for these Learning Areas must include the exact learning outcomes listed in each category and must reflect these outcomes in the course outline.
The Distribution Requirements, which includes Arts & Humanities, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Natural Science and Technology, and Mathematical Reasoning, are fulfilled by courses in specific departments as determined by the course prefix. The learning outcomes listed in each area will be used for assessment purposes, but outcomes do not need to be included in every course outline.
